Level Up Your Gaming Setup: Tips, Tricks, and Hacks for Effective Cable Management

In our digital world, almost everyone enjoys gaming, whether they play every day or once a year. But, very few of these people – young and old! – know how to game effectively.

The most enjoyable gaming sessions occur at a desk that is organised and tidy, which allows you to prioritise your performance rather than trying to manage the mess of cables around you. At Scott Electrical in New Zealand, we know a little bit about how to organise the long cables that a gaming system often requires.

Discover our best hacks for effective cable management, based on our years of electrical experience, here.

1. Plan the layout of your gaming space

Cables can’t be managed if you don’t know what they’re connected to and where they’re going to be running! Always plan the layout of your gaming space thoroughly before you invest in the cable management techniques that we describe below.

First, we recommend identifying all of the devices and cables you need to manage. For example, how many monitors are you fitting onto your desk, and do they all need to be plugged into different plug sockets? Answering these questions enables you to minimise your cable lengths and avoid the challenge of untangling them later on.

2. Use cable ties to bundle cables together

Cable ties are an effective, non-damaging way to remove tangles of loose wires from your gaming space. Simply group cables together that run in the same direction using a tie, and streamline your overall setup. If you’re concerned about compressing the cable itself, cable sleeves and tubing also exist as a viable solution for cable management. They allow you to bundle multiple cables into one conduit, neatening up your entire space in an instant.

3. Fit under-desk cable trays to route cables discreetly

After your cables are neatly bundled together, consider purchasing spacious cable trays that can be adhered or screwed into the underside of your desk to hide these bundled cables from view. These cable trays can also be used to route your cables discreetly, without the visual fuss and hassle of hundreds of stray cables and wires. Better yet, they come in various sizes depending on your requirements.

At Scott Electrical, we provide cable ties and cable trays throughout New Zealand to enhance your cable management and take your gaming setup to the next level. The more organised your electricals are, the more you can focus on playing – and the better you’ll become! To discover more about our products, find your nearest branch or contact us today.
